Play Time With DCOTA

Fashion designers often find inspiration in the works of interior designers, so I was more than thrilled when DCOTA (Design Center Of The Americas) Invited me  to be part of their fashion show and asked me to create two outfits inspired by an interior designer and his fabrics. They paired me with John Roselli & associates showroom and with the works of John Robshaw, who is famous for his woodblock printing techniques, his mix of fabrics and textures and his perfect use of color; Take a look at some of his ads below; I love them for being so quirky, fun and different! and of course, they remind me of India and that I really need to go there soon.

To me this project is a lot of fun and although it is definitely out of my comfort zone because I rarely work with prints, I’m sure it will push me to create something outside of the box. It took me seconds to take inspiration from the fabrics (all hand printed in India) and pictures from John Robshaw’s blog and ads!

I hope you find inspiration in John’s work as well, maybe to try a little woodblock printing, or design out of you comfort zone some amazing print clashing outfits!

Walking Among The Flowers

Beyond Miami’s gorgeous beaches and all the night life there are many places to find peace and culture. One of the most beautiful places in Miami is the Fairchild Botanical Garden… The photographs don’t do justice to this place.

Madagascar… Cactus.

The first time I saw a Baobab was at Fairchild, and it really touched my heart… Baobabs have a strong meaning in my life and looking at one and being amazed by its beauty and size is really something.

The Zen Lotus gardens are also breathtaking, and full of peace.

Nature’s Hearts

I took this opportunity to browse for inspiration for the coming collections… This dead leaf is perfect for color charts, and the leaves below are perfect to create silhouettes and textures

There is a small river that crosses the gardens. Cold clear water cools the hot Miami day.

Nature’s Colors.

This leaf was almost my size!

I wore: Banana Republic Skirt (This skirt is almost Vintage, I think is 5 years old or more), a J.crew Sweater, Tory Burch Belt, Street Spardilles, Dior Sunglasses, Kate Spade Bag.

To visit Fairchild: www.fairchildgarden.org ***Recomendations***Don’t go on a hot summer day, drink plenty of water, wear comfortable clothes and a camera is a must!

MMIF Week

This is me with our awesome intern who is a fashion design student. She is wearing my pleated silver mini skirt to show support! Isn’t she amazing?

The runway surrounded by many different chairs, no models yet…

I was lucky to be wearing  a white dress and my neon messenger! The “blue room” helped me shine!

Messenger Bag Kate Spade, Shoes Cole Haan, Dress Sample, Sunglasses Ray Ban, Belt J.Crew

The Carolina Benoit design team, and WEAR&HOUSE were invited as VIP guests to Brickell Fashion week, which was actually held at the Design District (Don’t ask).  Brickell fashion week is a new show which supports local fashion designers and design students, the event is very hip, young and has a NYC vibe.

Unfortunately I can’t attend the two runway shows this weekend, but this blog: www.thatscoolblog.com will be bringing the runway to you! Discover local new designers, photographers, and the Miami fashion scene.

Have a great Memorial day weekend and stay tuned next week for an exiting post!

Dress J.crew, Shoes J.crew, Hat Darling Boutique NYC.

Saturday we went to visit The Vizcaya Museum, a gem in the middle of Miami. Vizcaya is the perfect place to have picnics, read a book, relax… I can’t believe I rarely see young people there… mostly old couples and tourists. The Museum serves tea in the garden every Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, don’t miss it 😉

I have received a lot of emails asking me who are my favorite designers, the truth is that I am not crazy about any particular designer, but I do love well constructed pieces, of the best materials, and that fit my taste… I loved this J.crew dress! the moment I entered the store it had to be mine… the fit is perfect, and the oversized polka dots give the classic print a contemporary twist.

As I said before, the Museum is amazing, however, I was really saddened to see mountains of trash in the woods next to the bay. It made me think a lot about how detached we are to trash. When we dispose of something we detach ourselves from the waste thinking it will travel far away, but in reality a big part of it comes floating back to us… take a look at this picture and tell me if it doesn’t make you sad:
